I use CrashPlan as a budget point solution for small businesses and SOHO clients. This is predominantly to provide backup of critical data for individuals, families, or small businesses. It is not to provide system recovery backup but specifically focuses on the critical/important data an individual, family or small business would want to have backed up, off-site. Invariably it is used as the off-site component of a classic 3-2-1 backup plan.
  • Product is pretty easy to configure (Less than 30 minutes for a single computer)
  • Product generally grinds away without any noticeable issues
  • Regional cloud storage locations are fairly unique for this kind of product at this price point
  • Technical support
  • Support ticketing and lifecycle
  • Phone support hours
  • I think you should have an idea where the beef is by now
Individuals (SOHO), families and SMBs, who have a tight budget for offsite critical company data backup are well suited to this product. Especially if you want your data to be hosted locally (Australia in our case). Larger companies, with higher requirements and budgets would be better served elsewhere. Especially when you consider the poor technical support. Although, to be fair, their poor support may just be issues with their Pro/SMB products, as opposed to their enterprise products. However, if that is the case it's a pretty poor show/indicator still.

I use CrashPlan for workstations and server file backups at many of my clients. It solves the issues of lost files and gives peace of mind that files are backed up with a good amount of retention. I manage about 15 different clients, 30 servers, and over 100 workstations.
  • Automated backup
  • Data retention
  • Ease of installation and management
  • Longer retention time- would like a year at least.
  • Server support-as of now I believe it i really just file backup.
  • Exchange an SQL backup options.
I have pushed out implementation to workstations by just sending an email invitation and no real interaction is required-users just need to follow simple install instructions and default settings are adequate for almost all situations. Server deployment is a bit more involved but I have made it work. Many servers have over 1TB of data and they can have trouble finishing a daily and initial backup due to network and internet restrictions.

We use CrashPlan for an enterprise-wide desktop backup solution. All employee computers have CrashPlan installed and enabled by default, which allows us to standardize the recovery process if an employee's computer is lost, stolen, or damaged. Users can self-manage their backed-up files and restore documents that may have been inadvertently deleted as well.
  • Simple user interface
  • Reliable backups
  • Affordable scaling
  • Mobile app could be improved
  • Occasionally missed files due to OS settings
  • Error reporting could be more comprehensive
CrashPlan is a great solution for medium to large enterprises that want a standardized process for employee backups. It may not work as well for very small organizations that operate with a "bring your own device" setup. Overall, CrashPlan scales well, which makes it a good choice if you plan to deploy backups across multiple departments throughout your organization.

CrashPlan is used by a number of my clients to back up workstations, servers and NAS devices to the cloud. Most clients use CrashPlan to backup just mission critical machines, though some use it to back up all workstations. With CrashPlan set up properly, backups occur automatically every 15 min or when a file changes with no user intervention, allowing for peace of mind when it comes to protecting one's data.
  • CrashPlan is an extremely powerful and flexible backup program with multiple options of what files to backup, how often to back them up, how much CPU should be used during backup operations (both when a user is present and away), how much bandwidth should be used during backup (again both while a user is present and away), and a multitude of other options.
  • Unlike a number of other cloud-based backup services, CrashPlan can backup network drives (such as those from a Synology NAS) - this makes setting up a backup system a lot more simple and cost-effective, as you can connect multiple network drives to a single computer - and backup both that computer and the attached network drives.
  • CrashPlan keeps your backup history indefinitely. This means that if you delete a file, a year goes by, and you need to recover that file, you can use CrashPlan to do that. Most other cloud-based backup services only keep history for around 30 days before deleting them from the backup archive.
  • Another powerful feature, CrashPlan allows you to not only back up to the CrashPlan Central cloud, but also to an external drive or network drive. Essentially, you can use CrashPlan as an all-in-one backup solution for both local and cloud backups. The local backups are heavily compressed with data deduplication to save space on the backup destination, thus allowing you to keep a long history of backups.
  • The cloud-based backups can be heavily encrypted with a custom made encryption key that even CrashPlan can't recover.
  • The CrashPlan program installed on your computer is Java-based vs. a native application. While this makes development for CrashPlan easier, there are a lot of drawbacks to Java programs including more resources usage, less stability, and overall more clunky interface.
  • While this was also in the Pros category - CrashPlan is an extremely powerful and flexible program, which adds a great deal of complexity. Setting up CrashPlan isn't always a simple procedure, and depending on the complexity of your backup set, can take a while to tinker around with the settings to get everything to work properly.
  • The CrashPlan desktop program consists of a Java program front end, as well as a backend service - there are times when the backend service will crash, and the front end Java program will refuse to load. Typically, restarting the service or restarting the computer will resolve the issue, but sometimes more in-depth troubleshooting is required.
  • Perhaps one of the biggest downsides to CrashPlan is its price - at $10/month/computer CrashPlan is more than double the price of some existing backup services such as Backblaze (priced at $50/year/computer). To add salt to the wound, about a year and a half ago, CrashPlan discontinued their consumer options - which were very reasonably priced at $60/year for a single computer or a family plan priced at $150/year for up to 10 computers. When these options were discontinued, the cost of backing up with CrashPlan was effectively doubled for the same feature set.
  • Along with the previous example, CrashPlan had the option to back up to a remote machine on a different network with a free Crashplan account. This option was eliminated when the consumer line of services were discontinued.
  • While the backup service provided by CrashPlan are still first in class, the above two controversial changes have broken some trust between CrashPlan and its clients.
CrashPlan is a very powerful and flexible online backup solution. The fact that it can backup network drives and back up to multiple locations is a feature not found in most competing solutions. In addition, CrashPlan's encryption is best in class, with the ability to create long and complex encryption keys that even CrashPlan can't recover. Finally, CrashPlan keeps your backup archives indefinitely, which can be an invaluable resource for businesses large and small. Unfortunately, CrashPlan is priced on the higher end compared to other solutions ($10/month/computer vs $50-$60/year/computer for competing services such as Backblaze). In addition, when CrashPlan discontinued their popular consumer line of backup services, a breach of trust with the company was created that has not been fully healed.

We are currently using CrashPlan as a means of data security for our end user base. It is being used across the university to back up all users who have university provided laptops or desktops. This solution allows for a safety net for our users in case of hardware failure or a malicious attack.
  • It supports multi-user environments now so that no matter the amount of users on a PC a safety net is present.
  • It allows for backing up of all users in case of hardware failure.
  • Implementation of the software would be helpful. The current batch file does not function as well as it could.
  • There are some small bugs when changing users using a GUID reset command.
CrashPlan is useful in any environment where data security is needed.

Capriccio Elite, LLC currently uses Code42 to back up all files across all workstations in our agency. This includes sensitive information housed on local computers and our internal file server as well as QuickBooks files. As a stand-alone, the back-ups are reliable. We choose to use Code42 as part of a daisy chain of backups. Meaning, local computers backed up to a NAS and Code42 and NAS backed up to Code42. This more than adequately solves our need to have and access back-ups of files and documents. Furthermore, if a file is deleted locally, it is easy to find and restore from the Code42 console.
  • Code42 really does a very good job of backing up files. The integrity of the files remains good so long as the file was not corrupt to begin with.
  • The with proper setup, managers and users can be alerted based on a scheme set by the user when the work-station has not been backed up for a specified amount of time. We use the default of 3 days for warnings and 5 for critical back-ups.
  • Backups can be scheduled to run during times when internet traffic is high. Meaning, if the user has a low connection, running backups in the background can slow the processes. The ability to choose time to backup is very helpful in these situations.
  • The User Dashboard is user-friendly meaning that once the user logs in, the tabs and options are relatively self-explanatory.
  • Code42 allows the user to choose what files to back-up. This is quite useful as many of the files on a system (such as app data) take up room and speed given the changes within these files make through the day.
  • 2-factor authentication is available as well as users/admin archive key password or custom key.
  • When set up to initiate a backup every time a change is made, the likelihood of "losing" a file is minimized.
  • The login for Code42 still lets you get through to the backups however, one cannot make any adjustments. One must now use the login located at www.crashplanpro.com. I have been frustrated about why I could not see my bills, add licenses, etc by not having this information. It would be helpful to put a re-director for those accustomed to using the old login site.
  • History logs for devices have never worked. The workaround is to go into the device to review the logs. Logs are important when trying to figure out which file threw an error when backing up and why.
  • Not much has changed in online/offline indicators and moving files to a new computer. On the surface, it seems simple but it usually takes 2 or 3 reinstall attempts to get Code42 to recognize the new computer. For example, the backup shows current but is offline.
Code 42 is best suited to backup local files on computers including mission-critical files where encryption, access, and security. Redundancy is possible with layers of extra security if needed. Anyone who keeps their photos or other personal information on a computer will greatly appreciate this. Removable media is unfortunately not always reliable. It works well in the cloud environment. It will also backup One Drive files! Probably the best feature is the unlimited backup space for files. Code42 does not do system image backups. This can be a problem in a business environment where restoring operating systems of workstations, files servers, and on-premises servers is a need.

Code42 provides a secure, cloud-based and on-premises backup solution for workstations, laptops, and servers. I am a user and a reseller with about 100 end users in various organizations. It is a low-profile and low-impact installation, easy to configure, and seamlessly and continuously backs up files, providing secure off-site backup with versioning and increments- allowing you to go back to pristine file versions in the case of ransomware. It protects against unintended deletes and lost or damaged computers, virus or other malware infections, and allows a company administrator access to archives in the case of legal or HR needs.
  • Protects against ransomware- in a worst-case scenario, you can retrieve all the files in the condition they were in before the attack.
  • Good interface- easy for users to restore their own files in case of an inadvertent deletion.
  • Highly configurable to manage bandwidth and local resources.
  • Can back up to the Code42 cloud and local storage devices.
  • Would like to see a way for company admins to lock a user out of their archive to prevent deletion for HR or legal reasons
I use Code42 personally and resell to businesses with as few as two users. One business with 20 users has been a ransomware victim twice and we have recovered everything, files to databases, perfectly. I back up desktops, laptops, and servers, and use it for everything from inadvertent deletes to hardware failures. Backup is important but restores are critical, and the ability to see versions and intact archives and deleted files are well suited to any business that uses a computer. It's offsite and secure and runs in the background without consuming computer or bandwidth resources. I cannot think of any personal or business computer that doesn't need backing up, and off-site, encrypted, and secure archives that run without user intervention that not only allow restores but restoring from earlier versions is important for any scenario.

Code42 is the one and only system I use to backup my entire business in a digital sense. I am a freelance professional photographer, so I backup my images, documents, emails, etc., on a regular basis. Having a good backup system in place is crucial as hard drives fail all the time and my clients count on me to retain their products.
  • Code42 is the most affordable backup system offering unlimited storage that I could find. I came from SOS Online Backup, which I ultimately decided to drop after my monthly rate for their unlimited plan increased by 20x.
  • With Code42's unlimited storage option, I don't have to worry about the fact that my backups are significant in space. As a photographer with thousands of images at stake, I need to run large backups often.
  • Code42 runs continuously and silently in the background of my desktop computer. It is truly "set and go", so I don't have to think about it when I'm away. It runs until the designated drive has been fully backed up to my cloud storage. It will then automatically email me once the backup is complete (or, it will email me if it encounters any errors).
  • Customer service is above par. Anytime I need help, a chat agent is available (chat is my communication preference), they are always friendly, and go above and beyond to resolve my needs.
  • Code42's desktop client was recently changed; the interface is different and, I feel, it has been simplified too much. I found myself looking for controls that are no longer there. For some, this might be a plus, but I liked to have more control and see more details of my backup.
  • When recovering files (in my case, this is most frequently images), you see files as files - I am not able to see a preview of an image. So I have to know the exact file name/number I am looking for.
  • Code42 discontinued their mobile app. In 2019, I can hardly believe this. I used the app on a regular basis, to access files while I was on the go.
  • The Code42 software is a bit of a memory hog, although this isn't a major complaint from me since I have a computer designated to only sit and run backups, and do nothing else.
Code42 is great for individuals or small businesses who want to run large/unlimited backups at a low cost. The price coupled with great customer service make this a company I hope to stick with for a very long time. Be prepared for large backups to take a good deal of time to complete (though this will also vary dependent on your internet connection). If you find the desktop client to be underwhelming or confusing, just chat with an agent to resolve your issue.

We use Code42 across the whole organization to provide hands-free backup to all our users. Code42 ensures that all company data contained on user devices is backed up to a secure location that can be easily restored from. The user doesn't have to do anything and the backup process runs in the background. This service prevents user files from being lost because we can't necessarily force them to copy everything to the network drives. Additionally, when users are offsite or offline, their files are saved to the local computer. Code42 backs up using any connection - wired or wireless.
  • Once the original backup is created, Code42 runs in the background and doesn't adversely affect user productivity or system performance.
  • Code42 is relatively easy to set up and deploy. A technical advisor walks you through the process, which is very handy and makes the process painless.
  • Code42 is centrally managed via webpage which gives administrators a lot of power and visibility into current backup status.
  • The first backup is taxing on the system. Some users report that their computers become almost useless. You can set maximum usage and idle time usage parameters but the original backup is still time and resource consuming. Be prepared.
  • The initial setup is lengthy and confusing. If it weren't for the walkthrough with the technical support administrator, I would never have attempted it.
  • Feedback from the admin portal is non-existent. We had multiple systems whose backups wouldn't start and finally realized, through other means, that we were out of licenses.
  • Users can stop and disable the service.
I think for the money, there are better products. Code42 is a solid endpoint backup solution but it also comes with some hassles, such as the initial backup system resource problem. The portal is OK. It seems to require a lot of re-login and that's annoying. It is well-suited to an environment where there's not a lot of data to be backed up. If someone has multiple gigabytes, start the initial backup over the weekend to avoid user complaints.

We use CrashPlan to backup our remote workers. We run a hybrid configuration - our server, their cloud storage. We retain administrative controls of everything from our main office so backups can't be disabled even accidently by our end users. This has allowed us to ensure that, no matter what happens, all their files are backed up and can be restored with very little effort.
  • Tech support is some of the best I've encountered. Every support engineer I've dealt with has been friendly, responsive and very well trained on every aspect of their product.
  • We have a small staff and can't afford to dedicate anyone to administering any one system. CrashPlan works very well in 'set it and forget it' scenarios. We check the console regularly, update the software when updates come out and restore users files as needed. The rest of the time, it just runs.
  • All the documentation on the support site is very clearly written and very version specific. If you need to upgrade from version x.y.1 to version x.y.2, you'll find an upgrade document that specifically addresses that upgrade, not just a general upgrade document that's 10 version out of date.
  • The Administrative console takes a bit of getting used to. Basic functionality is pretty straightforward but some of the deeper admin functions took some time to find.
  • Software for hybrid setups is always lagging behind other configs.
I would recommend CrashPlan for any organization that needs flexible and reliable backup where conventional backup technologies (backup to tape, etc.) are either not already in place or are impractical (e.g. remote workers).

This is being used to backup our important users (President, CFO, Head Account, Head Sales person, etc), any user that would cause major problems for the company if they were hit with Ransomware or the like are protected. I've used this to restore a user when they receive new computers or a single file needs to be restored (or a few files).
  • Backup - this software does a great job at backup.
  • Runs in the background and doesn't cause any issues.
  • Alerting is excellent and on point.
  • Restore process is a little convoluted - once you understand it, it is pretty easy to use, but it can be hard to figure out the first time. Support is very helpful in this regard.
  • While it does do versioning, it can miss a few hours of time (up to 24 I've discovered), but even then, better a few hours then an entire system.
Backup and recovery of end-user computers - this product is a perfect compliment to your backup solution for your server/network backups. This will protect your users for a reasonable price with very little interference on your part. 'Install it and forget it' - once it in and running there really is nothing you need to do.

CrashPlan is currently being used at our organization for all corporate laptops. Users are instructed to keep vital documents and files in one of the backed up locations on the device, and we proceed to keep those around for seven years. We implemented CrashPlan as a replacement for Tivoli CDP as we required something low-maintenance with a user friendly interface.
  • Keeps backups safe and simple.
  • Upgrades to keep CrashPlan current are a breeze to apply.
  • Customer Service is incredible -- any technical issues we have encountered have been handled quickly and professionally.
  • The user interface in previous versions was confusing to non-technical end users. They have really made improvements on simplifying the client.
CrashPlan is perfect for any scenario, whether at home for personal use or in the office for corporate use. It has shaved down the amount of time we have spent implementing, maintaining, and upgrading by at least 50%. Users feel confident that their data is protected, and we feel confident on the technical side that we are well prepared for any device disaster.

CrashPlan is used across the whole organization. Every employee has it installed on their laptop and we also have it installed on some some servers to back up their data files. Most employees are remote and CrashPlan allows us to back up everyone without having to host our own backup server.
  • Crashplan backs up everything with ease. By default it starts backing up your user profile without even having to configure it, and thats enough for many people to get up and running right away, but it is highly configurable if you want.
  • Restoring files is pretty effortless as well. Easy to browse to the file(s) you want, choose a point in time if you want, and restore. Viola!
  • Versioning is a great automatic feature as well. Many of my users have taken advantage of restoring a previous version of a file they've mistakenly overwritten.
  • Being able to backup to multiple destinations is great too. You can connect your own storage, choose it as a destination and it starts using it. The local destination backup option makes restoration of large data much quicker.
  • Their version 5 client is almost too hands off. While one can appreciate the simplicity and cleanness of its design, I often prefer to get under the hood right away.
  • I wish they would make it easier to open the client from the system tray in version 5. In previous versions you would just double click the icon. Now it takes 3 clicks to expand the tray icon, open the settings and choose to open the actual application.
  • Sometimes destinations are offline when you need to restore, and usually at the worst time. We use CrashPlan to restore data for laptop replacements, and there are times when the destination is offline and you have to wait a while for the restore option to be available.
CrashPlan is a reliable, easy to use but very configurable data backup solution. It is an ideal choice for backing up users' data and even files on a file server, and not having to worry about tapes or other mediums. It's appropriate for anyone that needs to ensure their users' files are safe from everything from accidental deletion to ransomware. It is not a solution for bare-metal restore or for backing up/restoring individual database records since there are no agents that go along with it.

We use CrashPlan for all our managed customers (Mac shops). We use it back up hundreds of users/devices including server or client workstation data, depending on our client needs and budget.
  • Continuous incremental backup
  • Reduplication and compression that really limits the storage needs
  • File level restore
  • Dashboard reliability
  • Client interface
  • Easier upgrade process

We currently use Crashplan at our company. It has saved hours for some of our end users who have either had their computers completely infected to those who simply had some type of hardware failure. The ability to do this without end user intervention removes the complexity involved with restoring files for those individuals who are often on the road and or cannot be reached within a short distance of our office. The US being a large country, we ideally keep our remote users/sales team up and running as often as possible and get them up and running again after they have gone into some type of emergency.
  • Remote user backup.
  • Monitoring of users removing files from their PC.
  • Restores and upgrades of machines from Windows 7 to Windows 10 without sacrificing lots of time!
  • I think it really does a great job in many areas and [I] only think the reporting could get a little better.
  • Notifications that are sent to end users could be more clear.
  • Alerts to admins could be more clear for the end users that are out of sync.
[It is well suited for] backups for remote users who are not regularly in the home office with storage. Crashplan does a great job here. It was an issue that our company was facing for a long time and now appears to be in a great place.

I believe for those who rarely connect to a network and for those who have very slow network connections or have horrible connections in their home office, to begin with, it might not be the right solution. One employee who uses a hotspot out of his home rarely backs his files up [and] over a few months he has not done a full backup.

We are currently using CrashPlan to back up all of our remote users. The reason behind bringing on CrashPlan was that we needed a method to accurately back up and have access to data from our remote associates in the event of litigation. We soon found out that we could use CrashPlan to help us refresh the hardware for all 150 of our sales associates. We built the hardware in house, installed their most recent backup and then shipped out the new hardware. When they powered on their new system, it was identical to their previous solution. Complete with documents, email archives, desktop icons and IE favorites. We have not yet encountered any real problems. The closest thing to a problem is accessing the cold storage files. It is a bit clunky.
  • The ease of installation and deployment could not have been easier. The hardest part was getting our sales associates to actually click a link!
  • The back up is complete and transparent to the end user. Very hands off!
  • The admin portal is very user friendly. I can quickly determine who has recently backed up and those who have gone some time without an active backup.
  • As I mentioned previously, the file access in cold storage is a bit clunky. I would think that if I had admin rights I should be able to recover files from there relatively easily. But that is not the case.
  • I would like to see them have a different license tier for accounts in cold storage. The data there is not being manipulated, it is sitting stagnant and we are paying the same licensing as if it were an active backup.
CrashPlan is well suited for any size company. The license structure is such that you can easily add licenses as needed. We started out with our executive team and easily migrated to our entire remote associates. Very seamless and transparent. If someone is looking for a backup solution that is easy to use, easy to deploy and easy to administer, CrashPlan is perfect!

CrashPlan is being used as a disaster recovery/data backup tool in our organization. It is being deployed to the entire company of ~6000 users. CrashPlan addresses several business needs as it is a very versatile application. The help desk primarily uses it for disaster recovery when drives fail or end users accidentally delete a file. We also use it for hardware refreshes where pulling data from CrashPlan would be much quicker than USMT. Lastly, we use it for legal holds and data forensics.
  • It has a very easy to use UI so end users will have no problem understanding and using the application.
  • It is not intrusive at all in terms of system resource consumption and you will hardly notice it is running in the background.
  • Administration is extremely easy with the web console and allows you to push any changes to specific organizations or to the company as a whole.
  • The support staff and website documentation for issues or processes are very detailed and easy to understand.
  • Currently CrashPlan seems to be rolling out a lot of updates in very short time intervals. Given our change management processes, it is difficult to keep up with the latest and greatest releases.
CrashPlan is well suited in small or large environments that require users to maintain a backup or if the company doesn't allow backing up to external storage devices due to security reasons. There's really no reason a person shouldn't be using CrashPlan as the application is very lightweight and it gives users peace of mind knowing that their data is safe.

Crashplan has been implemented in our organization globally as a corporate backup solution. This addresses a number of business requirements in regards to assisting users with data recovery as well as having data available for legal compliance. With Crashplan we have been able to have a great deal more control over fulfilling our data backup requirements than other products we've tested or implemented.
  • The installation and upgrade process of the server has been one of the easiest implementations I've been a part of.
  • The ability to lockdown options to ensure that our business requirements are met for compliance.
  • The support structure is top notch. Highly responsive and knowledgeable.
  • Some functionality is not available when implementing the cloud solution vs the on premise.

With remote employees, CrashPlan allows us to build out a computer locally, restore data that has been backed up, and then deliver the machine to the user. This allows for minimal downtime for a user who is upgrading.

Another scenario is that data can be backed up and put on legal holds allowing for our legal department to control for any issues.

We have distributed employees including Home Office users and also part time freelancers. We are too small to allow break downs. Our philosophy is to make users self sufficient. CrashPlan helps us to achieve this for notebooks, mobile devices.
  • Self Service 100%
  • You can use restore anything anywhere in the world - go to the next Apple/PC store, get a new machine and simply sign on to your CrashPlan Account.
  • File History ! Just love it ! Once needed an older PowerPoint as I deleted some slides. A few clicks in the App and the version was restored on the desktop.
  • Backup initially can take a long time ... Incremental is good.
  • Look & Feel between Mac, WINDOWS, iOS, Android could be a bit more harmonized.
  • Get closer to the System Files, Profiles so users get as much restored as possible without the need for JAMF or else.
Almost no reason why not to use CrashPlan. Maybe if all users are only on a local LAN and you want to use a simply NAS storage and no remote users and no MAC users ... OK, then CrashPlan has too much to offer.

We have 15 local users and 35 remote users. I set up a parent and two sub organizations. The subs were set not to inherit the parent settings so I could control who could make changes to the settings. The remote users are locked down so we can be compliant with regulations about data archiving and retention. Remote users can not delete from backups and backups are set for unlimited retention. The backup is set to run continuously. The only issue we have had was with a user that has a satellite internet connection with limited or capped data. The first backup used most of her data allotment for the month. Users had to be educated to leave their computer on while the first backup was running.
  • After the install the user doesn't have to do anything. Our remote users were used to having to copy data to an external drive for archiving. Which meant it usually wasn't done. The central office didn't have access to any of those files either.
  • I am able to monitor which users are backed up and contact those that appear to be having issues.
  • Since the install package exceeded the attachment size allowed with our email client I included an HTML link to the location of the download.
  • The install took less than 10 minutes including the download of the software. Our documentation included screen shots of what the user should expect to see. This allowed remote users to install without having central IT get involved.
  • The management website times out frequently requiring a re-login.
  • Some of the information reported isn't consistent. Because each user can have multiple devices the number of devices doesn't match user number.
  • The number of users is the number of accounts that you have set up. Not the number of active users.
  • Some of the settings report inaccurately when first entering the screen. Refreshing the screen will update the settings. The help desk is aware of the problem and they are working to resolve the issue.
CrashPlan is great where you have remote or inexperienced users. It is a set and forget application. It just works.

CrashPlan was selected for our company to support a highly mobile user base. With a fast-growing company and lots of data being accessed, shared, and relied upon to do a job effectively, it is critical that we back up that data - and not by relying on users to understand when and where to save.

CrashPlan took the human error out of our backup plan. It guarantees data integrity, and our ability to service our users for a variety of needs. As an administrator, it gives me peace of mind that lost or stolen devices do not mean a loss of data. CryptoLockers don't scare me - now it's simply a matter of blowing away a machine and re-imaging with our CrashPlan backups. Accidentally deleted files can be restored in seconds, and if a user loses it somewhere in their mess of digital files, I can find it.

  • Device Refresh/Restore.
  • File Recovery.
  • Non-intrusive backups (no file sync!).
  • Administrative Portal.
  • File search across whole organization - a real loss of potential for expanding as a DLP product.
  • Deployment. It's doable, but it's not as easy as it should be.
CrashPlan is great for any organization that is looking for a lightweight, but not light in feature, backup solution. There is no file sync, and there are lots of opportunity for visibility into what is being stored and where. Device refresh and restore is a breeze, and helpful in a time where Microsoft has left their Windows Easy Transfer tool in the dust for transitioning machines from Windows 7 to 10. CrashPlan is NOT a DLP tool, but has the potential to be. It's a little disappointing to have a tool that gives some insight, but not all of it.

We use crashplan to create a constant backup of all of our users' files. It's been extremely helpful when it comes to restoring machines, putting out new machines, and grabbing files if need be after an employee leaves the company. It's extremely user friendly and easy to manage.
  • User Friendly
  • Easy to manage
  • 100% Uptime
Crashplan is really useful in any environment with important data. I wouldn't use it for one or two users and/or if you're backing up data locally.

Our clients in house (the whole organization) are extremely satisfied which makes our IT staff happy. The gut dropping feeling of data loss is no longer around with Code42 being rolled out in our org. Their infrastructure and interface is simple and easy to use on both sides (end users and admins), and can't imagine life without it now.
  • On-site/Off-site backup
  • Restore of data
  • monitoring of company data movements
  • Log gathering can be tricky for end users if needed
Liquid damaged computer from an end user that has no data recoverable. This used to be an issue before CrashPlan. Now with the ability to restore and recover data from the cloud, it makes it simpler and easier for IT staff to help support their clientele in house to make sure their data is safe.

We have deployed CrashPlan as an endpoint solution for all employees at our six locations. CrashPlan protects their laptops and desktops as well as remote on-site servers. The Helpdesk deployed and administers CrashPlan, while data backs up to the cloud so the overhead of the solution is quite low. Users can even backup over their own network when out of the office or from home.
  • Complete endpoint protection is way better than expecting users to put data on certain folders that are backed up
  • Cloud backup means that even out of the office, users can backup their data, and have access to it via mobile app
  • Version control is awesome for defending against ransomware attacks
  • Centralized administration and Active Directory integration keeps the overhead of the solution quite low
  • I'd like to see CrashPlan grow out a file Sync 'n Share capability which is a natural complement to, but not a replacement for, endpoint protection
  • Server backup and recovery would be great to focus development on
CrashPlan is a no brainer for endpoint protection. Backing up servers is possible but less appropriate for the solution. We use CrashPlan to backup some file servers but really only as an additional step to our server DR plan that would be fine without CrashPlan. When we do you CrashPlan for server restores, it is because of how quick and easy CrashPlan file recovery is.
